The Twitter Twenty: #1 @ConanOBrien

The top ten tweeters from the twitter twenty takeoff today!

Yep, that's right, in addition to apparently being alliteration week at rollinwithdice the Twitter20 has entered it's final phase.  This week we will get down to the nitty gritty of which feeds I find most enjoyable to follow on a day to day basis.  These are the elite, those who have ascended the pyramid of pith, the brethren of brevity, the sultans of soliloquy....

You get the idea.

See previous weeks entries for more on what the list is about.  For now here's today's newest member of the Twitter20:

Conan has treated Twitter like somewhat of a science experiment since joining.  He tweets once a day, every day;  he very publicly chose to follow just one person; his tweets are always simple and never seem to use hashtags or @replies.  And even though you know each tweet is carefully crafted by his team, somehow the cold clinical approach translates to a rather wonderful daily laugh.   I only wish he would have brought some of that experimental attitude to the new TV show which I unfollowed after just one week .

Twitter Profile: I had a show. Then I had a different show. Now I have a Twitter account.

Tweet of the Week: Thinking of removing my calf implants. My eyes are up here, ladies.

First, if you haven't read the Stuff Christian's Like blog, subscribe now.   In the pyramid of great Christian bloggers Jon ranks as the entire country of Egypt.  He has a great understanding of how to balance depth and humor and is smart enough to realize they aren't exclusive properties.  His tweets are routinely hilarious and consistently thought provoking (though sometimes a bit self promotional, but hey it's Twitter).  Also his observations on the Twitter medium itself are keenly interesting, including his assertion that it is silly to complain about someone Tweeting too much (which he does, yep, I went there) because it would be like calling someone and accusing them of using too many words (wait. I think I've done that too.)  Really Jon, think of all the devotional time you've wasted on creating tweets.  #jesusjukeforthewin

Twitter Profile: author of the book/blog Stuff Christians Like which is promised to be Funnier than the Shack

Tweet of the Week: True story. Someone behind me on my flight was playing a pan flute. It was like sitting in front of a beautiful centaur.

The only member of the Top 5 with fewer than 30,000 followers.  What that 600 or so people that do follow him know that you likely don't is that his feed has more laughs a day than a Seth Rogan impersonation contest (hey I've got my obscure simile crown to protect here).  Gary Thompson tweets often and his hit ratio is among the highest I've ever seen.  It's as if you hired a stand up to follow you around during the day and every once in a while randomly throw some observational humor at you.  When my Twitter grows up it wants to be GaryOnTheRadio.

Twitter Profile: Radio Personality / Comedy Nerd / 2nd Amendment Enthusiast. Gary likes you because you're nice. Plus, you give a LEGENDARY toe massage.

Tweet of the Week: If tomatoes are a fruit...then isn't ketchup technically a smoothie?

One of the things that made LOST so much fun (aside from the fact that it was week in and week out the best thing on TV) is that its creators were so open and honest about the creative process behind it.  The official LOST podcast clued me into what a great sense of humor Damon had and his Twitter account only confirms it.  He is often wry and self deprecating, and nearly always funny.  I can't wait to see what comes next from the man that stole my brain for a solid six years.

Twitter Profile: Yeah, I'm one of the idiots behind LOST. And no, I don't understand it either.

Tweet of the Week: I'll bet Hogwarts is totally lame when Voldemort isn't trying to rise to power.

Something about Seth's sense of humor and delivery has me on speed dial.  I'm pretty sure I'm one of the only one's to feel this way, but his weekend update may just be the strongest part of SNL right now (aside from that new guy who does the killer Denzel).  His tweets alternate between SNL insider stuff, sports observations, and quirky observations.  All three of which touch my tweet zone in exactly the right places.

I fell in love with Bill Simmons like most did, through his stellar ESPN columns.  The sports stuff was always well thought out, but what really sells him is his ability to draw from a wide variety of personal interests and inject so much humor and wit.  He's basically Mitch Albom if he decided to to live on the other end of the spectrum of social consciousness.

Twitter Profile: I write the Sports Guy column and host the BS Report podcast for . The Book of Basketball comes out in paperback on Dec. 7th.

Bart is easily the funniest and most candid of the crew of CCM artists that Tweet on a regular basis.  The fact that he wrote "I Can Only Imagine" and can still pop out the word "homepants" is a testament to his versatility and depth, or conversely his schizophrenia and dementia.  I vote the former.

Twitter Profile: Singer for the band MercyMe, and Mayor of Awesometown.

There is a reason late night talk show hosts find their way to Twitter excellence.  It's a perfect avenue for the quick observational humor they excel in.  Kimmel is a smart guy and he uses his Twitter to great effect.  The irony that he would use social media to try and get people to use less social media (through his national unfriend day) is I'm quite sure, not lost on him.

Brant is the main force behind the popular morning show Mornings with Brant (something you likely could have figured just from the title of the show).  What's great about his feed is that he finds a pretty powerful way to combine his quirky personality with some pretty serious stuff.  The fact that his profile pic is a dead ringer for Jemaine Clement in the movie Gentlemen Broncos is just a bonus.

Twitter Profile: I have a tiny bible

Tweet of the Week: Apparently you're not allowed to rollerblade thru Atlanta airport. Okay, but they didn't have to be huffy about it.

The Twitter Twenty: #10 @ChrisSligh

Week Two of the TwitTwent and 5 more "friends" that I just can't do with out on Twitter.   If you are curious about why exactly I'm doing this feel free to check out any of the posts from last week, where I mumbled something about McRibs and such.   Which, by the way, are back now mysteriously AFTER I posted about them.  It's like they can hear you.  There is something very disconcerting with that imitation meat.

I had some friends ask (and by friends I mean voices in my head) if they didn't show up in the Twitter 20 if that means I would unfollow them.  The short answer, no.  The long answer, no way Jose.  It just means I may be less likely to see your Tweets with lightning fast immediacy.  I've got plenty of friends that I will still check in with and are doing a great job keeping me tweeterifically entertained.  But I just have to simplify my daily Twitter fix to where my phone actually gets to rest in my pocket for a few minutes every once in a while.

Here's today's entry:

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Sligh guy is not only my second favorite American Idol contestant of all time (Please don't make me admit my first), he is a hilarious, over sharing, and often insightful social networker (Chris you can feel free to use that on your next bio.)   He makes up one third of the Christian music Twitter Trinity (Jonny Diaz is the second, care to guess the third?) and his additions to the twitterverse are equal parts random and revelatory (I originally spelled that re-lavatory which might occasionally apply as well I suppose).  He just had his first child this week so his tweets are sugar and spice and everything nice right now, but even so you can always count on Chris to speak his mind.

Twitter Profile: The beauty of brokenness is that it’s mirrored by redemption. If we weren’t broken, we wouldn’t need Christ—so being broken is a beautiful, beautiful thing.

Tweet of the Week: Lemme make this clear: my wife is a stud. Or whatever the female equivalent is.

This ones just for me.  I'm a bit of a (read "extreme") poker nerd, and absolutely fascinated by Daniel Negreanu.   Some of the plays he makes at the table are incredible and he is living proof that there is much more to this game than chance.  Off the felt he is just as interesting; broaching topics like his veganism, love of hockey, and his faith.  Yes, he would likely identify himself as a hockey loving, vegan Christian.  Which I suppose means he will check you into the boards if you mess with his Tofu and then pray that you heal up nicely.  He just made a huge run in a tournament in Vienna last week and it was great to be able to keep up with him via Twitter.  If you don't dig poker there really is no need to follow him.  But if you do, he's an interesting dude for sure.

Twitter Profile: Daniel Negreanu's Official Twitter Page

Tweet of the Week: Walking back to my hotel now and just wanted any muggers to know that I don't carry any money on me at all. Just sayin'
